Make sure you are pointed at the back. Also to ensure you are you can look at the bottom of the hopper and it will have a bent 90 connecting it to the block to are trying to chain it to. Hope this helps.
It may not work if you are using Bedrock edition. Lowkey, nothing works with Bedrock’s redstone systems.

When you make this make sure under the hopper is feeding to the chest. In the illustration note the thing coming out of the hopper at the bottom pointed to the chest and smelter. Hope this helps you 😊

This is because the redstone system in Bedrock functions differently than Java edition. Use the image provided as an example.
I just did it in bedrock and it works just fine, i even expanded it to make it 8x faster, it works just fine

This build works great in bedrock 1.21! I have it setup for blast furnace, furnace and smoker.
